Texture Mapping Quick Ref

This chart summarizes the characteristics of each of the Animation:Master texture maps. The background column describes how the background of the image is interpreted, the Alpha Channel column describes how the alpha channel is used and the Value/Percent column gives the use and useful range for the Value (version 8.x) or Percent (version 9.x) property.

Color Color rendered as is. black=transparent, white=opaque controls transparency of decal.

Bump Use gray.
Change in gray value=slope.
dark on light=concave, light on dark=convex
Not generally used. scales effect. negative values reverse direction of effect.

Transparency

Use gray.
gray value controls transparency.
black=transparent, white=opaque

Not generally used. scales effect.
0 to 1000%
Specular Size

Use gray.
gray value controls size of specular highlight.
black=no highlight, white=larger highlight

Not generally used. scales effect.

Specular Intensity Use gray.
gray value controls specular brightness.
black=no highlight, white=brighter highlight
Not generally used. scales effect.
0 to 1000%
Diffuse Use gray.
gray value controls darkening.
black=darkens to black, white=no darkening
Not generally used. scales effect. Negative values brighten.
-1000 to 1000%
Reflectivity Use gray.
gray value controls reflection.
black=no reflection, white=mirror
Not generally used. scales effect.
0 to 1000%
Ambiance Use gray.
gray value controls ambiance (self illumination).
black=no ambiance, white=100% ambiance.
Not generally used. scales effect. Negative values remove light.
-1000 to 1000%
Cookie Cut Color rendered as is except if a key color is specified. Key color is rendered as transparent.
controls transparency of model (not decal).
black=transparent, white=opaque

controls how color is rendered.
negative values invert colors. Magnitude is brightness.
-1000 to 1000

Displacement Use 256 level gray.
gray value controls displacement from orginal surface.
0=-127 cm, 255=127 cm. Renders smooth transitions
scales effect from 0 (black) to 100% (white) scales effect. Negative values reverse direction of displacement. Keep values small.
Fractal Use 256 level gray.
gray value controls displacement from orginal surface.
0=-127 cm, 255=127 cm. Renders polygonal transitions
scales effect from 0 (black) to 100% (white) scales effect. Negative values reverse direction of displacement. Keep values small.
